Dee MC kicked off her weekly series ‘The Fifth Element’ coming to your quarantined screens every Tuesday at 9 pm IST. In her own words she aims to bring hip-hop to the audience since there’s nothing happening in the outside world with hip-hop. Shows and other major events can be anticipated to be on a lockdown for several months due to the corona outbreak. However, the action doesn’t stop!
Every single week Dee invites artists from all the elements of hip hop spread across India. The focus of the whole session is to shine light on all the elements equally. As well as a conscious effort to make Desi Hip Hop inclusive of all the parts of South Asia. Till now guests like beatboxers like Dcypher and Beatslayer, emcees like MC Altaf, Tony Psyko, Poetik Justis, AGSY and Yoku have joined Dee on the live sessions.

This week’s guest emcee was Madhya Pradesh based artist Nitin Mishra aka Spitfire. If you got into the Desi rap scene post the release of Gully Boy then you could not have missed this rapper. Hailing from MP for which he coined the term ‘Midzone’, Spitfire has been making music since more than half a decade. His contributions in the film Gully Boy set him in a lane of his own with the massive success of the anthem ‘Asli Hip Hop’ penned by Nitin.
The emcee recently released a heartfelt emotional track titled ‘Black’. Spitfire was 19 years old when he heard about the Kathua rape case. He cried, and immediately after, he wrote and recorded Black. Today, Nitin is 21 years old and he no longer cries. Instead, he rages. He is angry. The victim’s names have changed, but the brutalities are the same. ‘Black’ makes the listeners uncomfortable by making them confront the ugly truth of our nation. Music for the track is given by Anushka Manchanda aka Nuka.
