DAMN. What a roller coaster year it has been for Kendrick Lamar. The tide just keeps going up and up on the wave that is Kendrick Lamar’s music. This year, Kendrick opened up the Grammy awards with a special performance, like only he can. Not just that, he went on to bag the awards in all four categories of the Rap/Hip-Hop section of the Grammy Awards 2018.
Four-For-Four
His major hit single “Humble” won the “Best Rap Song” and the “Best Rap Performance” Awards. He also won the Best Rap/Sung performance award for his hit single and collaboration with Rihanna “Loyalty”. And as if this wasn’t enough, he topped his night off with the award for Best Rap Album – “DAMN.”. Besides these four major wins, he also became the first Album Of The Year nominee (for the Hip-Hop genre) since Outkast. That in itself is an era transcending move. He also got nominated in two other categories – Record Of The Year and Best Music Video.
Kendrick Lamar has truly set the bar high for Hip-Hop at the Grammys. Being a beast on the tracks as well as a great performer. He won the categories in which the legendary Jay-Z himself was nominated. Not taking any shade unto Jay-Z’s status, but this was a very well deserved win. Long live Hip-Hop, Long Live King Kunta!
