It’s a bountiful year for the Desi Hip Hop scene as good music is taking over the mainstream industry. Rapper Hard Kaur made waves internationally with her comeback mixtape “The Rising Vol. 1”. Hard Kaur’s mixtape created lot of buzz on its release being backed by music videos, interviews, documentaries and much more. She has put her heart and soul into the making of this album. It was certainly great news for her fans as she entered the nomination list of this year’s MTV European Music Awards.
Hard Kaur wins “best india act” at MTV EMAs 2017
The results are finally out and Hard Kaur emerged as the winner of “Best Indian Act”. Other musicians nominated under this category were Raja Kumari, Nucleya, Yatharth and Parekh & Singh. Females are kicking it in the Desi Hip Hop scene as Raja Kumari also received lot of love for her nomination.
Best part is, Hard Kaur is getting involved with the scene and is inspired by the hip hop revolution taking place in South Asia currently. After waiting for a long time and believing that hip hop will bloom in India, Hard Kaur picked some of the best South Asian underground rappers from all over the world to get on her mixtape. Tony Sebastian, Feyago, Shah Rule, Swami Baracus, Apeksha Dandekar, Balan Kashmir, Fura, Nasty Ninja and Illa Straight are some of the artists featured on the mixtape.
Without doubt, the genre that sowed its seed here more than a decade ago is now in its blooming stage. Even though there is a long road ahead filled with uncertainty and possibilities of facing hardships, the unity in the movement is what matters. Hard Kaur’s mixtape sends similar message through her perspective and the people who have worked with her on this one of a kind project. Congratulations to Hard Kaur on the EMA win!
