Saheer & Skinny Local Drops “Gimme That”, an Indian-Trap Banger

, ,

Bay Area resident, Saheer links up with Canadian producer Skinny Local to deliver “Gimme That”. The track is an absolute banger and combines regional Indian elements with trap elements perfectly.

When asked about the single, Saheer said, “I remember the first time I heard those drums bang, they started just like you hear them now. I’ve always wanted music that smacks you in the face the millisecond it plays and Skinny delivered exactly that. What was unique about this one however was how Organic/Earthy the music sounded off rip.”

Talking about the fusion of regional Indian percussions with trap elements Saheer said, “Skinny told me he does work in all aspects of audio engineering and the dandiyas (sticks used to dance with during religious/festive gatherings known as a Garba) he used, were actually recorded by him. There’s a different level of depth to the music when real recorded samples are used. I remember doing the same thing with a couple mixes I did for my Garba/Raas team at UC Riverside ‘UCRaas’. When you go the extra mile it inspires others to do the same and I feel Skinny’s music did that for me and my artistic journey.”

Talking about his come up Skinny Local says, “I was born in Durban, South Africa, where I was influenced to a ton of Bollywood and Kollywood music. After moving to Canada when I was 10, I lost a lot of my culture, trying to assimilate to Canadian life. After moving to Vancouver in 2017, I wanted to revisit myself. Music has been that outlet for me where I can create sounds that can help me say so much. I have been influenced by a variety of music growing up. From listening to bubblegum pop and Bollywood as a kid, to nu metal and classic rock in my teens, alt hip hop, synthwave and trap as an adult.”

“I have been wanting to work with a Gujarati rapper for a while, so my friend Raaginder told me about Saheer. After reaching out, I knew exactly what I wanted to produce. Using dandiyas layered with a snare, 80’s synths, and blending moombahton with a West Coast hip hop vibe, I wanted to bring all these sounds together. Saheer’s vocals were the perfect instrument needed for this track. What a bop, eh?” Skinny Local said about process behind the track.

After getting his two singles featured on Desi Hip Hop & Sony Music’s Hip Hop focused label – Awaaz, Saheer brings a fresh sound in the Desi scene. “Gimme That” was playlisted on some of the most popular playlists on Apple Music and Spotify, including Desi Hip Hop’s “Global Desi Hip Hop” playlist on Apple Music.
