In the Hip Hop world, one of the best things about the culture is that there are no rules set in stone. An artist is free to experiment with his sound however he or she feels like it. In Southeast Asia there has also been a recent boom in the regional rap switch. Many artists have switched to rapping in their own regional mother tongues for a variety of reasons. Whether it be for the ease of writing, or to expand their own reach, one thing is for sure – regional rap is here to stay.
A Movement Overseas
Gangis Khan is a name that rings a bell in the Desi hip hop movement. He has also been a front-runner and still is a veteran emcee. The style and sounds have always changed with the times. And this latest drop is one such example.
Teamed up with Desi super-producer and hit maker – Deep Jandu – we see Gangis drop a Hindi jam for the first time. “Kuch Nahi Theek Hai” is also a reggae inspired Hindi track. And it makes sure that it sticks with the listener from the first listen. For a Desi artist based in Canada, to pull this off with a great label like Times Music backing it, is a testament to the power of hip hop culture.
Deep Jandu also played a key role in keeping the sound fresh and heavy. Gangis Khan dropped depth-filled laid back lines which connect with the listener and tell his story. Watch the amazing visuals for this one of a kind track down below and do let us know what you felt in the comments below!
