Dee MC kicked off her weekly series ‘The Fifth Element’ coming to your quarantined screens every Tuesday at 9 pm IST. In her own words she aims to bring hip-hop to the audience since there’s nothing happening in the outside world with hip-hop. Shows and other major events can be anticipated to be on a lockdown for several months due to the corona outbreak. However, the action doesn’t stop!
Every single week Dee invites artists from all the elements of hip hop spread across India. The focus of the whole session is to shine light on all the elements equally. As well as a conscious effort to make Desi Hip Hop inclusive of all the parts of South Asia. Till now guests like beatboxers like Dcypher and Beatslayer, emcees like MC Altaf, Tony Psyko, Poetik Justis, AGSY and Yoku have joined Dee on the live sessions.
Our latest guest was none other than North East hip hop scene’s frontrunner Meba Ofilia. Starting her musical journey through blues, jazz and soul music, Meba eventually found her way to hip hop as well. From her humble beginnings to being the winner of Best Indian Act at MTV Europe Music Awards 2018, Meba has come a long way indeed. But still the quest to find her own sound remains intact.

Meba is currently working on an album comprising of ten tracks, set to release in 2021. The album that was supposed to release earlier this year was pushed back due to the current pandemic. Meba wanted to take her time in curating her debut album, carefully placing all the pieces together. After all its her debut album, so she wants it to be something she is proud of even after several years down the line.
Dee MC and Meba Ofilia also spoke of the importance of making the hip hop scene more inclusive of areas that are generally overlooked.
