Sanidhya Arya who goes by the stage name of Young Charsi is a rapper and a music producer from a city called Haldwani in Uttarakhand. As a matter of fact, he met L.A. way back in 2013 and they recorded a couple of raw tracks together. However, he dropped out of B.Tech to pursue music in 2015 and moved to Delhi with L.A. and learned music production.

On the other hand, he was inspired by Metro Boomin and 808 Mafia. Hence, he started making trap beats and rapping over them. Also, L.A. and him then formed a crew called Grind Music, later joined by Vivaad who is also from Haldwani and they decided to work on a collaboration mixtape.

Moreover, while producing the beats for the mixtape, he focused on bringing something new to the table. Also, he tried to make the project as diverse as possible, to make at least one song for everyone, that hits you straight. In fact, it took him a week to put together all the beats. Afterwards, they took around two months with writing and recording of the project. Overall, the mixtape has a lot of different emotions from personal issues to everything going on in our life.

We sat down for a little chat with Young Charsi and asked him a few questions. This is how it went –

“In the end, it was all good teamwork and the mixtape turned out to be how I had imagined. This was my first self-produced project and we tried to put our city Haldwani and Uttrakhand on the map when it comes to hip- hop” – Young Charsi

WHAT SHOULD HIP-HOP LISTENERS EXPECT FROM “UTTRAKHAND TRAPPERS”?

A diverse and fresh project with songs that people can really relate to. I think a lot of rappers are talking about trap but to be honest their music doesn’t sound like it. We are trying to contribute that to the desi hip-hop scene but also keeping it lyrical at the same time.

 “NO FEELINGS” IS A TRACK THAT WILL CONNECT TO THE MASSES. WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON THAT?

Every guy has been through a breakup, it’s a phase that changes you mentally and emotionally. The song was all about letting out what we personally felt after being in a situation like that.

IS THERE ANY PRESSURE ON YOUR SHOULDERS BEING THE FUTURE OF HIP-HOP IN HALDWANI?

Yes, you can say that! And We don’t have any pressure as such but yes we have a lot of work to do in terms of reaching out to the masses and spreading this new wave of music and the hip hop culture.

ANY FAVOURITE UPCOMING RAPPER FROM YOUR HOMETOWN?

Haldwani has a lot of young and raw talent and it personally makes me feel good to see people really digging into the hip-hop culture and new artists coming up. Grind Music is always trying to spread the genre and I’m sure there will be more good artists coming out of Haldwani. My favoUrite from my hometown is L.A. Shoutout to Viper X, Vastvik & Hyun. They all are killing it.

ANY SPECIFIC THEME BEHIND “THE UTTRAKHAND TRAPPERS”?

The main theme behind U.K trappers was to put Uttarakhand on the map as far as hip hop is concerned because we don’t see many people reppin’ Uttarakhand the right way.

YOU DID THE WHOLE PRODUCTION FOR THE MIXTAPE. IS IT A TOUGH TASK FOR AN UNDERGROUND ARTIST TO WORK ON A PROJECT LIKE THIS?

I usually make 3 beats a day so putting together the beats wasn’t really a long process but writing, recording and doing the mixes right took time. And yes I would say it is a tough task but the good teamwork at Grind Music helped me get over the hurdles in the creation of the project.

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE TRACK “NEW HALDWANI”?

With, “New Haldwani”, we wanted to give Haldwani, Uttarakhand a new sound (trap sound) apart from its traditional sound which mostly consists of folk music. L.A. and I rapped about our dreams and the hustle and things going on in our life and the way people treated us. Also, we addressed a few rappers in the game and how we deal with it all and still keep it moving.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW AND WHAT’S IN STORE FOR FUTURE?

Working on new projects with Vivaad and L.A. Uttarakhand Trappers 2 will be the next release from me and a lot of new collaborations with other artists are on the way.
