Cardi B Becomes 1st Female Rapper to Earn A Diamond Single

,

Since releasing “Bodak Yellow” back in 2017, Cardi B has only been making money moves. And her breakout single made history on International Women’s Day (March 8). Much to Cardi’s surprise, “Bodak Yellow” became the first diamond-certified single (selling 10 million units in US) ever by a female rapper. The RIAA made it official by adding the diamond plaque to their site’s database and later congratulated Cardi with a tweet.

Cardi B made sure to thank her fans for their work in helping the record get the Diamond certification, posting a gallery of images and videos on Instagram to share the news. “Thank you every1 that send me beautiful congrats on Bodak going Diamond. A couple of years ago I didn’t even understand what going diamond means or meant I just wanted to win and break in.” She went on to write, “This record changed my life. Thank you everyone who showed Bodak so much support and support and buy till THIS DAYY !! That’s why it went diamond cause of the support YOU still give. Wap is a spicy one shorty 5X platinum in 7 months makes me really happy cause I put this song out when I was doubting myself then most.”

“Bodak Yellow” went 9x-platinum in 2019 and reaches the elusive diamond status less than two years later. The single powered Cardi into her Invasion of Privacy debut, where every song on the album is at least gold — making her the first woman to accomplish that feat as well.
