Sony Music’s hip-hop imprint, Awaaz, is back at it again with their showcase of the most talented Desi hip-hop artists globally. This week sees the release of Canadian-Desi artist, Blitzkrieg – who was the only North American male rapper featured in the soundtrack of Zoya Akhtar’s blockbuster Bollywood movie, ‘Gully Boy’.

Blitz (Blitzkrieg) is a name that needs no introduction in the urban Desi music industry. Originally discovered by Punjabi MC, Blitz has collaborated with the likes of RDB, Juggy D, Tigerstyle, Roach Killa, Bikram Singh, Punjabi Hit Squad, Aman Hayer, Choclair, Saukrates, and many others. He has also won numerous creative arts grants from the government of Canada in pursuit of his musical journey.

In “Honest”, Blitzkrieg collaborated with multiple successful Desi artists from across the globe. Notable Ragaae artist Apache Indian joined Blitz alongside Deep Jandu, Roach Killa, and Vaz. 

Honest is a global collaboration like none other. While Blitzkrieg, Vaz, & Deep Jandu are from the 6ix (Toronto), their collab partners in the song come from all over, including Roach Killa from the UK. “Roach is my brother and my favorite person to collaborate with, we bring the best out in each other artistically,” Blitzkrieg added, “Apache was one of my biggest inspirations growing up and really laid the foundation for urban Desi music. Vaz is a new artist who I found has great soul in his voice & d boy has been one of my favorite Desi producers since his album playback.”

Over the past decade, along with long time collaborator Roach Killa, Blitz pioneered the sound of Toronto’s urban Desi music scene and helped gain it worldwide recognition through constant international touring and radio play. Blitz continues to grow and expand as a true creative through his role as a producer and director of music videos for multiple artists in the scene.

Deep Jandu is another artist who requires no introduction. With massive hits under his belt, he’s been riding the wave of Urban Desi music for ages! His most recent release, featuring Bohemia, titled “Pagol”, is one such massive hit with 20 million views on YouTube – and that’s just 1 video! YouTube and every other streaming platform is peppered with multiple hit singles by Deep Jandu and his camp.

When asked about the track, Blitzkrieg went on to say, “My vision for the track was to represent the urban Desi sound globally and sonically. The cross Atlantic collabo between the UK and Canadian vibes infused with rap, reggae, Desi, & R&B vibes together.”

He concluded by saying, “I feel my role and one if my biggest strengths has been connecting people and ideas. This song / video is just an example of that”
