If you’re a Gujju or know a Gujju,  chances are you’ve heard the popular song ‘Maro Devariyo Che Banko’ by late Avinash Vyasji.  If not, word up! Because you’re about to get a Hip Hop spin on it by The Spindoctor, known by his patients as Dr. Sanjay Meriya.

The Spindoctor linked up with world reknowned Bhoomi Trivedi and rapper Mc Classic to create a Holi classic that will be remembered for years to come.

After finishing his medical studies, Dr Sanjay Meriya was struck by lightening and turned into The Spindoctor, entertaining audiences all around the world on the ones and twos.  Jokes aside, there aren’t many DJ’s in India actually spinning on vinyl who know Hip Hop and are Gujarati.  Mumbai based Spindoctor is a veteran in the Mumbai Hip Hop scene and was GullyGang’s official DJ playing sets with Vivian Divine.  Dr Meriya wanted to do something different with Hip Hop in Gujarat and conceptualized ‘Aavi Gayi Holi’ with Bhoomi Trivedi.

If you’re a fan of Bhoomi Trivedi, you’re in for a surprise where she actually does a decent job at spitting some bars.  Trivedi began her journey as a contestant on Indian Idol and began  her Bollywood career with 2012 film Prem Mayee with the song “Bahne Dey”. However, she rose to fame with her rendition in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 released film Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela, where she lent her voice for the song Ram Chahe Leela which was picturized on Priyanka Chopra.

MC Classic, popular rapper from Vadodara, Gujarat was carefully chosen by The Spindoctor to bless the remix with some bars.  Classic held up his end of the bargain to stay true to Hip Hop and maintained his swag packed with lyrical content and flawless delivery.

Gully Boy brought the Mumbai Hip Hop scene to the forefront and we’re looking forward to seeing the evolution of the culture across various cultures/regions of India.
