Emmy Award Winning producer, Aakash Ravikrishnan aka AAKASH, just dropped a project titled, ‘Over Seas’ which brings some of the most promising and talented acts in Mumbai together.
The entire project is a vibe and has something for everyone to jive with and relate to. The album features Sahir, Bombay Lokal, Dopeadelicz, MC Altaf, D’Evil, Trap Poju, Dee MC, Ace among many various other local titans.
Hip-Hop is an innovative genre and is always evolving and discovering new sounds, if you are a fan of the new school ambient trap sound then you will notice the album has a currently trending lo-fi trap soundscape.
The production consists of some progressive synths, trippy baselines and wavy percussion which provides the rappers with the perfect canvas to deliver his implication. The Mumbai family has catered to a profusion of topics which include human attributes like motivation, moving forward and also have spoken about their city and the dirty politics behind it.
Gully Boy has definitely thrown light on some really deserving talent thriving in Mumbai and this album celebrates them all!
‘Rehta High’ by the Mumbai OG Ace aka Mumbai is a personal favorite and is a proper smokers anthem. ‘Running Thru Mumbai’ which features Jay Kila and iLLah is also a catchy tune which describes the kind of hustle it takes to survive in a city like Mumbai. The two artists, J Kila & iLLah connected with Aakash via social media and repped their own streets in NY & LA, respectively.
Peotik Justis dropped a video for the track, ‘Obsession/Bliss’ from this album. It’s evident that the theme of this track was ‘Peace’. The video is done Seven Isle Films and was captured during performance at Levi’s Lounge, check it out here.
The 16 songs range from inspirational and motivational songs like Khamakha, Udh Chale and Guzarish, to pre-game and turn-up anthems like Marley, Bounce and Game Over. The album reveals a dark and deeper layer of music and lyricism in songs Sharaabi and Khauf; however there is a song for all hip-hop fans on this trap heavy album with the inclusion of chill anthems like Rehta High and Aadatein.
MC Altaf and D’Evil also dropped a music video for their track ‘Wazan Hai’ in Over Seas, the independently released video has now crossed 800k views. Gully Boy has definitely thrown light on some really deserving talent thriving in Mumbai and this album celebrates them all!
AAKASH has won an EMMY award in Audio for his Field Recording and Post-Production work on “Finding Home: Indiana at 200” and is also a member of the EMMY awards judicial committee, judging three EMMYs.
All the 16 tracks off of AAKASH’s album – Over Seas – has a different appeal and features the all stars of Mumbai’s Hip-Hop Scene! Be sure to check it out.
